Welcome to the September edition of the Wardens Newsletter. Hopefully, August was as much fun for you as it was for me. Between writing and the kids starting school, it has been packed full of adventures. In this edition expect updated website information, another list of inspirational music, writing tips, and my September TBR! The Newsletter is still in the works. I think with each new issue it gets better and better. As usual this is all for you, if there is something you want to see please reach out. Book News I've been working diligently on book 5 in the Ancient Blood Series. Currently, about 30K words in and already I have planned yet another more exciting adventure. This is what happens when you find joy in the world you create. Many of you have already read through the entire Wardens Series. I would be delighted if you would hope on the beta bandwagon for Ancient Blood. If you want to join in on the fun you can follow me on Inkitt for free. Still no word on when Smoke and Ash will be released. I promise once I hear something every one of you will be the first to know. As promised, I have been working on the website and the Characters page. I have the base character list down, but now I want to expand it. I'm thinking about linking in each book, once you click on the cover it takes you to a character sheet. I would love to add pictures. If you are an artist let me know! This will take some time, but I'm working to avoid spoilers for people that haven't made it through the whole series. Playlist Last month I started adding 10 songs that inspired scenes in all the Wardens books. Here for your listening pleasure is this month's additions:
Writing TipsMy very first review of Inside the Fire was good, but the reviewer decided not to rate the book based on some of the subject matter. This was based on one chapter. When I started writing the novel I decided that I wanted to add in all the things that I experienced growing up. This was both the good and the bad. The chapter in question was when John abducted Dawn. While I understand that this could trigger emotions in others, all I thought was to share that heart-shattering moment. When writing never be afraid to share what you feel. Not everyone's lives are rainbows and butterflies. You need to share the challenges that connect the reader to the character. I understood the reason the reviewer chose to not rate the novel while giving it a fantastic review. Being alive is tough. Especially after three hundred years of being a vampire. But now that I’m human again, I’ve decided to do what any nineteen-year-old human girl does: go to university. I thought it would be a breeze. After all, how many other students have the kind of life experience I have? Everything was going great (well, not great. I did embarrass myself in front of the campus heart-throb), until the only real friend I made was murdered. And not just murdered—ritually sacrificed. And here I thought college would offer me the “typical human experience.” Looks like I’m going to have to dust off my vampire huntress skills and test them out in a human body. My name is Katrina Darling—ex-vampire, re-human-ated university student and totally pissed off. If you like Linsey Hall, Shannon Mayer, CN Crawford, Ilona Andrews, AL Knorr, or Patricia Briggs, you will LOVE the FIRST installment of the MORTALITY BITES. As a bonded dragon shifter, Casstiel should have joined his soul mate in the afterlife when she was murdered. He did not. Fate changed the rules and tethered him to another female—a druid witch. The enemy. For ten long years Casstiel lives in a haze of fury as he searches for the source of the hated connection. Only when they finally cross paths, he’s faced with a horrifying truth and finds himself protective and fiercely attracted to her. Even worse, she makes him question what it is he really wants. Half human and half Fire-born, Ashara has never soared the skies or shifted into her dragon. Instead, she’s been held captive as a breeder for the Ilyium, heart breaking more each time they take a child from her. Her only solace has been a connection to another that’s always kept her sane and warm in a cold, harsh life. When Asahra’s suddenly freed and confronted with her source of comfort; a large, sexy male who scares the hell out of her and wants her to release him, she is at a loss. As her heart awakens to a love she never dreamed possible, Ashara struggles to find her place in this new life, unsure of her desires, until a shocking discovery changes everything and may not be what anyone wants. Fans of JR Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Gena Showalter, Christine Feehan, Nalini Singh & May Sage will love this heart-wrenching tale of loss and redemption, so grab some tissues because your soul will sing as all things lead to love. Being a runaway princess isn't always as fun as people think... Stuck in the human realm when the world ended, Rhianna just kept on running...until the wolves at her heels caught up and she uncovered a plot to bring back civilization in the worst possible way. All she has to do is stop the plot before any more innocents end up dead. - Wolf Blessed is a paranormal apocalyptic reverse harem and Rhianna's complete story. Warden's Newsletter #2
Welcome to the second Wardens Newsletter. I trust all of you are having an amazing summer! Aside from work and Taekwondo, it's been busy busy. My kids took a trip to the Grand Canyon, we toured a chocolate factory for my birthday, Grandma and Grandpa came in from Texas, and now we are preparing for back to school. The biggest highlight of my summer was learning my daughter loves to write almost as much as I do. She posted her first story to Wattpad and is tearing up the charts! I am loving the energy she puts forth in her writing. She also let it slip that she is one of my biggest fans, telling all her teachers and friends her mother wrote a book. Maybe one day, when she's older, we will co-author some terrifying urban fantasy with horror plots. I would love to know what your most significant accomplishment is this summer. Head over to the Facebook Readers Group and share! I want to thank everyone that had ideas for the Newsletter this month. I have added not only a writers section but also a play list of current songs that have helped inspire parts of the story. Trust me when I say listening to "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark" while reading the scene from Inside the Fire where Dawn and her mother find Wesley in the woods will change the dynamic of that scene. Of course, I am still open to ideas. So anything you can think of that you want to see, just let me know, and we can try it out. Feedback is super important. After all, this is your Newsletter, not mine. Without further ado, let's get this party started. Cue the music! What's Going on in August: This month I am taking time to work on the fifth novel in the Ancient Blood Series, currently titled Underfire. Dawn steps back into her lead role even more powerful than before. Chapters will be uploaded to both Inkitt and Wattpad as they are written. Please do not be afraid to give feedback on what you think is awesome, and what you think is just meh. I will also be taking some time to get back to reading. My to read books are on the right side of the Newsletter. I hope to have four books read a month from Indie and Hybrid authors. I would love for you to check out these books as well, the descriptions sound amazing. Not to mention, I have had the pleasure of getting to know some of these authors, and they are just awesome. Warden's Playlist: Ever wonder what songs inspire the scenes in the Wardens Series? Below are ten songs that inspired several scenes in the series. Of course, the first one listed is the one that started it all. I will share ten songs a newsletter. If you are like me hearing the song will take you to another place and open the story even more then before.
Writing Tips From Me to You: Do you have a story idea and are too afraid to write it? Dawn Weathers was born through a messenger conversation between myself and one of my best friends. It started out as a joke; I said I was going to name each chapter after a Jelly Belly flavor. Before I knew it our conversation had created Dawn, Wesley, and Adam. I started out thinking the project would be abandoned after the first few chapters. I loved to write, but I always lost the meaning of the story and would leave what I had written on the hard drive of whatever computer I was using. Dawn refused to be let go. And while I had an idea on her personality and demeanor, she took on a whole new life within the story. The original plan was to tell the story of my life through the eyes of a teenage girl with celestial powers. We decided to muddy up her blood a little by making her part Angel and part Demon. Next thing I knew the story spread from one book to two, and then after three years of writing in Dawn's POV there was six total in the series. Then the most amazing thing happened; it was published. The point is, never be afraid to tell your story. Your characters are an extension of yourself. You just have to find that one you love enough to be able to tell their story. Parts of their life will be based on the hardships and triumphs of your own. As the words flow onto the page, a new life begins to emerge. Next thing you know she's not doing what you are telling her too, and she has blown up half the underworld. Nobody should be afraid to write. No matter if you do it for money or if you do it just to pass the time. If you have a story to tell by all means shout it from the rooftops. Share your story with a friend, a relative, your pet. I promise you that they will love it. All it takes is a little time, and your imagination will create a stunning world with complex characters. So get out there and write that story! Website Updates Coming in August: I asked the question of what you would like to see added to the website. You all responded with character listings and backstory. So this month I am working on the finishing touches to the character page that will be found on my author website. I am keeping it simple at first, only introducing the characters from the first four books. Once the books start having their solo publishings dates, and all six books have been released will update to the secondary characters. (You know who I'm talking about). Of course, if you feel a character is missing, let me know, and I will work to get them added. I hope to have the page up by the middle of the month so everyone can view and comment on the characters. I want to know who is your favorite and who you can just do without. I'm also toying with the idea of book recommendations. I have met a lot of authors with amazing books. Something that I never thought that I would do. So, I'm playing with the idea of author recommendations. I could post a book a month (starting out) and anyone that has read the novel is more than welcome to comment on the page. It will be like our very own virtual book club. Do you like this idea? Additional News: Nothing new to report in the realm of Smoke & Ash (book 2) solo release. I hope to have something new for you on the next Newsletter. Is there anything you would like to see added to the next installment? Do not hesitate to reach out and let me know what I can do to make this Newsletter more enjoyable. With that being said, I hope that everyone has a safe and fabulous August. I cannot wait to hear from all of you. Scene fades to white. Heather D. Glidewell Baldr the Beautiful is dead.
