What programs do I use during the writing process?
  • Atticus, AutoCrit, Grammarly, Microsoft Word, Speechify

Have I used OpenAI at any point?
  • Yes. I have utilized OpenAI to identify weaknesses in scenes, conduct background research on demon names, and generate descriptions of scenery from locations I have not physically visited. I’ve also asked it to help me determine whether I’m “showing” or “telling” in my writing, and to provide descriptions of facial expressions—something I often struggle with. My use of OpenAI is entirely assistive, similar to how I use Grammarly.
  • Additionally, I’ve experimented with the Beta program for Amazon's audiobooks. While I’m uncertain if that counts as AI use, I chose it because I enjoy listening to my books. Unlike Alexa’s monotone delivery, I found the voices in Amazon's Beta more engaging. My goal was to enhance the reading and listening experience of my eBook, not to boost sales. I wanted to provide an option for those who, like me, prefer a more dynamic audio experience.
Am I against the use of AI in writing?
  • Yes and no. I believe AI should not be used to write an entire story solely for monetization. However, I see great value in using AI as a tool for brainstorming ideas or seeking editing advice. I am aware of copyright issues and the ongoing debates surrounding OpenAI concerning plagiarism. Therefore, I maintain that AI should not replace human creativity in crafting a full-length novel. If a book is written entirely by an AI like ChatGPT, I believe it is only fair to credit the AI as the author.
  • Relying on AI for the entirety of a written work is not appropriate. However, asking AI questions like “Does this flow right?” is a legitimate use that does not violate any rules or infringe on anyone’s work.

So, why did I decide to share this?

Because there is significant negativity surrounding the use of AI in writing, authors often face criticism for utilizing AI to create character images or assist in the writing process—be it for grammar checks, dictation, or audio enhancements. Many authors pour their hearts and souls into their stories, only to encounter backlash for seeking to ensure their text flows well and that their characters are accurately portrayed.

I believe that being transparent about my writing process is essential in today’s environment, especially since most of the tools I use (excluding Atticus and Word) are considered AI, whether assistive or generative.

In conclusion, all of my novels are written by me and finalized through human editing.

I will not be opening comments to debate the pros and cons of AI usage; this is simply my transparency. It’s important for you, the reader, to understand where I stand. There will undoubtedly be people who disagree with my perspective, and that’s perfectly fine. However, please refrain from confronting me simply because I’ve chosen to share my writing process.

Rejecting their mates is a matter of business and survival.

I am so excited to be sharing Vermilion with the world. So much so that I was shocked to find that it is the first book in the anthology. No pressure at all!

Witht hat said, I want to say thank you for supporting this quest. I hope to see you all next week when Monster Hunter drops.

There are still ARC copies of Helhaven available. Reply to this email with your prefered method of downloading, and I will send you a link. You can choose from BookFunnel, StoryOrigin, or BookSprout. Be warned, this book has a killer cliffhanger.

If you missed the ARC for Vermilion, you can catch it again in 2024 with its solo release.

Until next week, be safe and healthy.

Welcome to Warden Wonderland

it's Cover Reveal Day!
Not one, not two, but three ARC reads!
Plus 20+ Exciting new Reads & BookFairs Galore
I promise you will find your next read!
Dearest Readers,

It's hot! The AC went out on my car at the start of summer, which has made this even more unbearable. However, we have a lot to unpack and a short time to do it in, so let's start the fun.

First and foremost I promised that I would reveal the cover for book 2 in the Ancient Blood series! I have been sitting on this for a long time, and finally, sharing it (and the blurb) with you is almost emotional. Reapress is due to release in December 2023 and the preorder will be up as early as September, but I won't be pushing it in September - but we will get to that in a moment.

Here she is, the gorgeous cover from the creative mind of Melony Paradise - I give you Reapress.

Kris has spent the last six years piecing together her shattered life after a devastating car accident erased her memory. Now divorced and ready to start anew, she finds herself drawn to the enigmatic Kaleb Kross, a man with mysterious tattoos and mesmerizing neon-green eyes.

But their budding romance takes an unexpected turn when Kaleb reveals a shocking secret: Kris is no ordinary woman. She is the daughter of the Grimm Reaper and the leader of a powerful trio of Reaper assassins. Suddenly, Kris is thrust into a hidden world of supernatural beings and ancient rivalries.

When a chance encounter with a mysterious woman warns of impending danger, Kaleb reveals that they have only a few days to reach the City of the Sun before the relentless Alexander Greene catches up to them. In this fabled city, Kris is reunited with her father and her friend Aaron Matthews, the Incubus Lord of the South.

As their journey unfolds, Kris realizes that her true purpose lies in protecting her dear friend Elle from the clutches of a malevolent force. With time running out and dark forces conspiring against them, Kris must tap into her hidden powers and uncover the truth about her own identity.

Ancient Blood is a continuance of the Wardens Series. Taking place ten years after the events in Solitary Flame.

In other news, we are a month away from two releases! Rejected by the Immortal and Monster Hunter, both release within a week of one another next month. That said, ARCs are open for Vermilion and Curse of Helhaven.

I understand if you would prefer to wait until the single release in early  2024 to snag an ARC copy. This is open to anyone who would like to read the version written for the anthology.

Vermilion reads like a prequel setting the reader up for the actual series. However, Curse of Helhaven does have a cliffhanger. If you have read The Crimson Legacies, it rivals that one. On the plus side, I am already working on Part 2 of Curse of Helhaven.

If you are interested, I have a signup form through Mailerlite. This is just to help me track how many ARCs are downloaded, as I am offering these through BookFunnel and StoryOrigin and will not be collecting emails through those sites to streamline the ARC straight to the reader. Once the project is over, I will wipe the email list. No emails will be sent unless you state you want a reminder email when the books launch.

Speaking of ARCs - don't forget that if you are currently a BookSprout reader, you can snag a copy of The Cursed Romance of Time & Death. Please do not feel rushed; August 23rd is the last day to download a copy. (Yes, the image does say the 31st, but the downloads end on the 23rd).

Announcement: I pride myself on not bombing you all with countless emails each month. However, there will be two newsletters a week apart in September. This is to celebrate the release of Monster Hunter and Rejected by the Immortal. If you haven't already pre-ordered your copies, hit that one-click button, there will be some amazing stories, and quite a few of these authors will be expanding into a shared universe. So worth the read, I promise.

Click the images in the More By section of the newsletter to preorder.

I hope everyone has a wonderful start to fall, I know I'm not ready for the second summer here in AZ.

Until next month be safe and healthy.

July Newsletter - Elle Release Party

Welcome to Warden Wonderland

It's release day for Elle!
Plus 20+ Exciting new Reads & BookFairs Galore
I promise you will find your next read!
Dearest Readers,

There is nothing more exciting than a new release.

I penned Elle in 2016, around the same time I was writing Solitary Flame. I wasn’t sure she would fit into the Warden world initially, but she jumped in with both feet. When I dusted off the old manuscript and went to work, I realized how much she fit.

So with that, I give you a brand new story from Warden Wonderland.  You can pick it up today for 99 cents on Amazon. Do you prefer physical copies? Paperbacks are also available through the Zon for $13.00.

The advanced reviews have been positive, stating that the book is “enjoyable,” “well written,” with “likable characters.” Right now, the book has 4 stars on Goodreads.

A handful of ARC copies are still available on BookSirens if you are interested in a review copy.

Want to know what happens next? Well, I’m not going to give you too much info, but book 2 is called Reapress. The expected release date is December 18th. I’ll do the full cover reveal next month and the blurb.

I sat down this week and wrote out my road map for publishing. I have a plan for the remaining Ancient Blood novels (there are 4 more to release). But what about Vermilion, The Curse of Helhaven, or My Brothers Keeper? Those are planned releases as well, along with my Dark Madame series. Once I have my ducks in a better row, I will remove Demon Whispers from KindleVella and request my rights back from Dreame for the Possession of Anna Drake, as I have learned I was not made to release books in serial orders. It’s not a lack of writing. It’s the fact I can’t find a proper way to break out each episode.

I’ve put The Cursed Romance of Time & Death into the ARC rotation. This novel was released with little warning, no build up, and a bad ARC campaign on my part. Starting July 23rd, you can pick up Cursed Romance from BookSprout. There are only 25 available copies, and the review process will run until August 31st. I will post more details on my Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter.  I know you can read the sample with a claim option at the end, but I am unsure if that puts you on a download list.

Also, don’t forget to get your preorders in for Monster Hunter and Rejected by the Immortal. Both of these anthologies are going to be killer! I am super excited to read everyone’s submissions; I know some of them are spicey. Hopefully, I will know the ARC process for Vermilion and The Curse of Helhaven next month. I cannot believe these will be released in September. That’s like tomorrow!

Until next month be safe and healthy.

Signed Copies of Elle

7/15/2023

Comments

I'm attempting something this year that I have never attempted before.

Because I am working on a three year plan to release more books yearly, I figured I would start something new with Elle.

Would you like a signed copy of the novel? If so this is the breakdown for you to get one.
  • The Amazon Price for Elle is $13.00
  • I'm upping this to $15.00 to cover the shipping costs from Amazon to my home.
  • Standard Shipping is where I'm starting at $7.50.
    • I openly admit I have minimal knowledge about shipping but when I looked to see how much it would be for me to send from Arizona to Missouri it was over $10.00, but that seems high in my opinion. Right now (until I know more about all of this) I am only shipping through USPS. If this takes off I can open an account with a discount shipper (or upgrade my website so it auto calculates).
  • Taxes are charged for the purchase.
    • Everywhere is different, but with Arizona's tax it was still under two dollars.
  • Books will come wrapped, signed, along with a thank you card.
    • Depending on how many requests there are will depend on the time period I can get everything sent.  My initial purchase was for ten books, but if this gets more than ten orders it could take me a week to get the books from Amazon. So please allow at least two weeks for shipping.

If things go well with Elle I may offer this with other novels like The Cursed Romance of Time & Death, or any other upcoming release. I hope to produce my publishing roadmap for all of you to see. The next three years are going to be chaos.

If you are wanting to purchase a copy via Paypal you will have to reach out to me directly and we can set something up, right now Paypal is not a payment option I can use via the website. (Again with the upgrades.)

Please do not be afraid to reach out to me,  you can email me directly or you can find me on any social media. I promise I'm almost always near a computer.

That said. Please select the button below and let's see if this works. Fingers crossed it does. Also, please give me room for error, I'm trying to offer something I've never offered, in a way I've never tried. I am hopeful it works out, but know if something can happen it will.

I've included both links. Left is the signed copies, right is the Amazon page.

Thank you for your continued support.

Rejected by the Immortal author K. Rea

Wynter wanted change, instead Artemi challenged her way of life. Neither was prepared for the consequences.
Wynter Thorne escaped her sire’s clutches to start anew in Llyr City, and established an event management company to keep to the shadows. When she lands the fundraising gala contract for the new Vayle Observatory, it has the potential to propel her business into the stratosphere. On the night of the gala, when she’s about to meet the elusive employer that hired her sight unseen, the burn of a mate mark was an unwelcome surprise.

There’s no way she would allow a human, even one like Artemi Vayle, to ruin the life she built with her growing coven. Even being close to the handsome dark-haired embodiment of everything she craves causes her powers to malfunction, not to mention he’s technically her boss. Despite the risks she’s drawn to him, one night with fate’s choice couldn’t hurt, right?

With the chemistry between them undeniable, chaos and desire reigns until Wynter finds out she isn’t the only one keeping secrets. Artemi hunts her kind, he hunts them well, and she’s on his list. Failing to end him, she rejects him and flees into the night before he can return the favor.

The hunt is on, and Artemi isn’t the only man in the city looking for her. Her sire and his coven have descended on the city, to kill her bespoken mate, and claim her once and for all.

Monster Hunter author K. Rea

Alysia hunted trouble, slaying it without remorse to protect innocents, until she found him. This time trouble had a name - Olyver.
When her best friend and benefactor, Artemi Vayle, goes silent during one of their most important business ventures to date, Alysia leaves the comfort of the open road for Llyr City, home to more monsters playing at being human than she cared to think about.

At least the monsters she met on the open road and backwoods were honest about their nature before she put an end to them. As she gets closer to uncovering what has happened to Artemi, trouble finds her - Olyver, the protector and enforcer of a new coven of vampires she was investigating in the city. The sudden appearance of a mate mark on her shoulder was another complication she didn’t have time for.

Olyver was everything she'd want in a man, and everything she hated about monsters; confident, cunning, and complicated. He uses his skills and abilities to block her and stay one step ahead. He’s always showing up where she wants to go, or following in her shadow. With each encounter, the lines between the hunter and the hunted become blurred.

From the streets to the penthouses, surprises keep coming as Alysia’s and Olyver’s warring natures clash with the desire that burns between them. With their lives and hearts on the line, the hunt is on.

Welcome to Warden Wonderland

Today we have one free read, one preorder, and a ton of new reads!
Hello Dearest Readers,

It's June and only a few more days until summer. Then again, it's summer every day in Arizona, even in the middle of December when everyone else in the country is wearing parkas and beanies. It's also the time of year when I refuse to go out in the sun for fear of being turned to ash. It gets hot here!

Because I tend to get wordy, I want to try something different this month. Let me update you by project. Let's say it's been crazy busy!
  • Vermillion and The Curse of Helhaven have returned from the editor and submitted to the publisher. Both of these anthologies are for charity. Solo releases for both books will be in early 2024.
    • Vermillion is part of the Rejected by the Immortal Anthology
    • Curse of Helhaven is part of the Monster Hunter Anthology

  • Elle should be coming back from the editor this week. I have been sitting on this story for a long time and am so happy to get it out there finally. Elle takes place ten years following Solitary Flame. You can click the image to preorder.
  • The Cursed Romance of Time and Death is for FREE on Amazon. Click the image to get your copy.
  • I've started the read-through of book 2 in the Ancient Blood series. You know what that means - the title and cover will be revealed in the next few months. Here's a little teaser.
  • ARC News!  Since I do not have Elle back yet and the following newsletter is the release party, I created a Google form. Please fill out this form if you are interested in an ARC. Reviews are not required, but I would be excited if some were left. I will send a one-off email to those who filled out the interest form. Click the image to sign up.

Goodness, that is a lot! Are all my months this busy? I think I'm off to take a nap. I hope you have a fantastic day, week, and month. I look forward to seeing you in July.

Thank you,

Heather D. Glidewell
